It's that old Bob Ross show from the 80s. It's very relaxing & the landscape paintings are very pretty.
I don't paint but I'm often motivated to draw while watching it. All the episodes are free on youtube too.
Bob Ross supposedly got into painting to relax because being a military sergant stressed him out.
He sometimes brings on cute small animals like a squirrel or a bird. It's all very peaceful.
He seems genuinely passionate about nature. I also like the show "lore" so to speak: him bringing up Alaska,
him calling dark clouds "tired", him telling you to "beat the devil out of [the paint brush]" when drying it off, etc.
At the time of writing this, I've only read 2 books. However they were both fun and funny.
I absolutely love the fan favorite character of Death, or the Grim Reaper. He comes off as friendly yet stern in a way that's unusual.
There are themes about the complex relationship between reality and belief too.
I remember watching How to with John Wilson and loving it. It's a one of kind show. He starts off every episode with a simple question,
only for it to end with a more existential one. He also has a habit of finding the weirdest people and using them for added humor, but ultimately not shaming them.
He has a knack for finding seemingly random shots/footage that make sense in context too. It's an oddly comforting and relaxing show.
Joe Pera Talks With You is a tv show on adult swim. But the vibe is different from what you'd expect from that.
It's still weird. But the weirdness comes more from the combination of deadpan humor and relaxing atmosphere.
It's about Joe Pera, an outsdoorsy music teacher with a deadpan but soft-spoken voice.
The jokes focus on the contrast between him and the outside world. His love interest is also a doomsday prepper.
There's a youtube channel that's also relaxing but it isn't as funny.
I would get recommended skits from this show on youtube in my teens. But at the time of writing this, I recently started watching full episodes.
Kids in the Hall is a Canadian sketch comedy show from the 90s. The show often has an absurdist sense of humor.
The show also was progressive for its time. They've received complements on how they wrote their female & gay characters.
But there's still jokes that are offensive here & there.
Pluto TV cut out a lot of offensive skits but kept in others. Unfortunately, this includes the "Screw You Tax Payer" skit which can still be found on youtube (link).
You can also see the full episodes on youtube too.
I used to watch a lot of Discovery and History channel before they stopped being educational and turned to profit.
One Discovery channel show I'm nostalgic for is Mythbusters. You can guess what the show was about from the name, testing out myths. They were not only educational, but they made science look fun.
The explosions, the guns, the ancient weapons. Though they also covered more "boring" myths from time to time like if vodka worked as a bee killer.
Another entertaining aspect of the show was the dynamic between the co-hosts. The most notable being Jamie & Adam, with Jamie being the more deadpan meticulous one & Adam being the goofball.
They were both very smart men that'd butt heads sometimes. Supposedly they didn't get along very well. But fortunately, it wasn't due to abuse or anything, just Jamie & Adam having different workstyles.
Mythbusters was one of those shows where everyone was the smart guy & a bit of an adrenaline junkie. But even so, they had their own unique personalities.
Kari being a vegitarian germaphobe who would gag in experiments that involved animal corpses. Tori being a klutz. And Grant being the robotics guy.
A lot of the episodes are free on their youtube channel, plex, and pluto tv.
