There's a lot to be said about Gundam. It has a lot of themes that are still relevant to this day, even the older stuff.
The horrors of war, climate change, the rise and fall of fascism, the dynamic between teens & adults.
I was 1st introduced to Gundam by the Origin series. Then I watched the compilation movies for the original, Zeta, etc and eventually, I got around to the original series.
Hell, Amuro (the original's protagonist) probably has the most oddly specific yet believable parental issues I've seen in an anime that takes place in a unrealistic setting.
Instead of having assassin parents (like Killua) or some other fantastical issue, his mom left for Earth & is now disappointed in him for being a child soldier.
That's not even getting into the big spoiler with his father. War in Pocket is another good one. War in Pocket is a commentary on the failure of gundam's own success,
how they may have accidentally made war seem "cool" instead of what they intended. I also vibe with some of the newer stuff too.
